King drops nonconference match to LMU

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University men's volleyball team returned home and fell to Lincoln Memorial University on Tuesday night. The Railsplitters got ahead early, and the Tornado couldn't recover as Lincoln Memorial won the match 3-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
  • Lincoln Memorial got off to a hot start, using a 4-0 run to take an 8-3 lead early in the opening set.
  • The Tornado deficit grew to 15-7 following another 4-0 Railsplitter spurt as Lincoln Memorial went on to win the first set 25-14.
Second Set
  • Joshua Kim got the Tornado off to a 3-0 lead in the second set with a pair of kills and a service ace.
  • Back-to-back kills from Kim and JT Deppe later in the set gave King a 12-7 lead before the Railsplitters started to work their way back.
  • King held an 18-15 advantage when the Railsplitters went on a 5-0 run to take a 20-18 lead.
  • A Kim kill evened the score at 21, but Lincoln Memorial scored four of the final five points to take the set 25-22.
Third Set
  • Lincoln Memorial used a 4-0 run at the beginning of the third set to gain separation and take a 4-1 lead.
  • Kim pulled the Tornado back within 6-5, but Lincoln Memorial responded with an 8-4 spurt to open up a 15-9 advantage.
  • The Tornado couldn't come back as Lincoln Memorial took the set 25-17 and the match 3-0.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Kim led the Tornado with 11 kills and five digs.
  • Diego Marcano followed with eight kills.
  • Deppe posted 23 assists and a team-high eight digs.
FOR THE FOES
  • Lincoln Memorial posted 11.5 blocks, led by seven from Dawson Walker and five from Justin Sharfenaker.
  • Sharfenaker paced the offense with 10 kills while Jacob Titus added nine kills.
  • Walker posted eight kills, and Ryan Foy handed out 30 assists.
  • Cole Campisano registered a match-high nine digs.
UP NEXT
  • King remains at home to take on the University of Mount Olive on Friday at 7:00 p.m. The Tornado then host Barton College on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
  • Lincoln Memorial travels to Emmanuel College on Saturday.
