BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University soccer teams won three individual Conference Carolinas awards last week.
Lucy Barrientos was named Conference Carolinas Defensive Player of the Week for the women while the Tornado swept the men's awards with
Ben Delisle and
Dalton Gammon.
Barrientos posted her first career shutout, helping the Tornado to a 0-0 draw with Erskine College on Sunday. In the contest she posted two saves as the Flying Fleet took 11 shots. Earlier in the week she posted five saves in the season-opener at the University of Mount Olive.
Gammon was selected Conference Carolinas Defensive Player of the Week following a big week for the Tornado, making 18 saves in two matches. He started with four saves, posting his first shutout of the season and second of his career, helping King to a 1-0 win at Mount Olive. He then made 11 saves on Sunday in a 1-0 defeat to Erskine College. He stopped all 11 shots he faced as the game's lone goal was an own goal.
Delisle was selected Co-Conference Carolinas Offensive Player of the Week after scoring his first goal of the season on Monday at Mount Olive. The goal came 27 seconds into overtime, giving King the 1-0 victory. It was his first game-winning goal of the season and seventh of his career.
The Tornado soccer teams travel to Emmanuel College on Sunday. The women kickoff at 1:00 p.m. with the men to follow at 3:30 p.m.
