Tornado comeback falls short at Emmanuel

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – The King University women's soccer team fell behind early at Emmanuel College on Sunday, but the Tornado fought back in the second half. The Tornado netted a pair of goals within two minutes late in the second half to even the score, but the Lions scored in the 88th minute to take the game 3-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • King controlled play in the early going, earning a corner kick in the opening minute and taking three shots in the opening 10 minutes.
  • Ariana Gallegos Rodriguez ripped the first Tornado shot on frame in the eighth minute, but it was turned away.
  • Emmanuel turned the field, however, and broke through in the 15th minute on a goal from Breanna Gomez that was assisted by Moriah Logue.
  • It didn't take long for the Lions to extend their lead to 2-0 as Gomez found Emilia Dingwall who buried her shot in the 17th minute.
  • Mackenzie Winters had a pair of shots turned away in the 21st and 27th minutes as the Tornado couldn't find the back of the net in the first half.
  • King continued to press in the second half, and it finally paid off in the 78th minute when Meghan O'Ferral found the back of the net to cut the King deficit in half.
  • Just over a minute later, Veronica Roach sent a pass that found Gallegos Rodriguez, and she found the back of the net to even the tally at 2-2.
  • However, Gomez and Dingwall connected again for Emmanuel as Dingwall found the back of the net in the 88th minute to give Emmanuel the 3-2 victory.
