BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University women's volleyball team swept the Conference Carolinas Weekly awards after winning both of their road matches last week.
Julie Ward was selected Conference Carolinas Player of the Week and
Georgia Davis was selected Conference Carolinas Specialist of the Week.
Ward had a big week for the Tornado, averaging 4.43 kills, 5.71 digs and 0.71 blocks per set, leading King to road wins at Converse College and Lees-McRae College. That pushed the Tornado winning streak to 10 matches, their longest streak since winning 12 straight in 2013. The junior started with her first career match eclipsing 20 kills and 20 digs as she posted 22 kills and a career-high 27 digs in a 3-1 win at Converse. The 27 digs is the fifth-most in a match for the Tornado in the NCAA DII era, and second-most in a four-set match. Her 22 kills were two off of her career-high as well. Ward followed that with nine kills and 13 digs in a sweep at rival Lees-McRae.
This marks Ward's second Conference Carolinas Weekly Award of the season as the other came on February 22.
Davis posted her first career double-double with 27 assists and 10 digs in a 3-1 win at Converse. She followed that with another double-double, 19 assists and 10 digs in a sweep at rival Lees-McRae. The 10 digs for Davis sets a career-high as well as her 27 assists. Davis also recorded five blocks, four service aces and seven kills. For the week she averaged 6.57 assists, 2.86 digs, 0.71 blocks and 0.57 aces per set.
This is Davis' first career Conference Carolinas Weekly Award.
King closes the regular season with a home match against Lees-McRae at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Tornado will then host a Conference Carolinas Championship tri match on Saturday afternoon.
