Bristol, Tenn.- The King University women's volleyball team opened the King Classic with a split, defeating Winston-Salem State in four sets before falling to Newberry in their second match of the day at the Student Center Complex in Bristol, Tenn.
In the opener, the Tornado topped Winston-Salem State 3-1 (25-22, 18-25, 25-15, 25-14), led by 12 kills each from
Haley Harnichar and
Isabella Statzer.
Ella Kiser ran the offense with 33 assists and King's defense notched 70 digs.
In the nightcap, King dropped a tough three-setter to Newberry, 25-18, 28-26, 25-17. Despite a strong effort, the Tornado couldn't overcome the Wolves' momentum in the key moments of each set. Harnichar again led King with 12 kills, while Statzer added 10. Kiser chipped in 33 assists and
Capri Johnson added 7 kills.
