BRISTOL, Tenn. –
Bennett McCann of the King University baseball team was selected CoSIDA Academic All-District. McCann is the first Tornado to earn CoSIDA All-District honors this season, and the first baseball player since 2016.
On the field this year, McCann helped lead the Tornado offense as he was one of two Tornado to start all 38 games and posted a batting average of .288. The Ringgold, Va. native was second in the team in at bats and third with 38 hits while leading the team with 11 doubles. McCann's 23 runs batted in ranked second on the team as did his 11 stolen bases.
In the classroom, McCann carries a 3.55 GPA while majoring in cell and molecular biology. He was selected academic All-Conference Carolinas and graduated cum laude this spring. McCann was on the Dean's List each of his last six semesters.
McCann is the fifth King baseball player to garner CoSIDA Academic All-District honors. The most recent came in 2016 when Ryan Whitt and Dylan Sligh earned honors. Cory Rhodes earned the distinction in 2014 and Bryant Walker was recognized in 2012.
He will now be nominated for CoSIDA Academic All-America, which will be announced on July 28.
