McKinney's career-high lifts King over Erskine

DUE WEST, S.C. – The King University women's basketball team started their weekend road trip with a win at Erskine College on Friday night. Jhayda McKiney scored a career-high, leading the Tornado to the 62-44 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Period
  • King got off to a hot start on a Desiree Bates triple and Caroline Harville layup.
  • Following an Erskine triple, King rolled off 10 straight points, started by a Trinity Lee triple.
  • Jhayda McKinney capped the run that gave King a 15-3 lead with a triple and jump shot.
  • McKinney capped the scoring the first quarter with a trifecta, giving King an 18-6 advantage.
Second Period
  • The Tornado gradually extended their lead in the quarter, taking a 29-15 advantage following another McKinney three-point basket.
  • However, the Flying Fleet closed the quarter with six straight points, but the Tornado led 29-21 at the half.
Third Period
  • King opened the second half on an 11-0 run, capped by a Brianna Dunbar triple and two free throws that gave King a 40-21 lead.
  • A Jada Campbell trifecta gave King a 48-28 lead as the Tornado led 48-33 going to the fourth quarter.
Fourth Period
  • Madison Worley started the final stanza with a triple to extend the King lead.
  • The Tornado held their lead there as a Dunbar triple gave the Tornado the 62-44 victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Dunbar led the Tornado with 15 points to go along with five rebounds and three assists.
  • McKinney scored 14 points on 4-for-11 shooting from long range.
  • Alexa Gramann grabbed a team-high eight rebounds and added six points.
FOR THE FOES
  • Mariah Corry led Erskine with 16 points and seven rebounds.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • The 14 points for McKinney sets a career-high, topping her previous best of 13 set last month at Salem University.

  • King completes their final road trip of the season on Saturday at Emmanuel College. Tipoff from Franklin Springs, Ga., is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
