Tornado offense erupts in win at Tusculum

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – The King University baseball team got off to a hot start on Wednesday night at Tusculum University and didn't look back. The Tornado scored in each of the four innings, including five in the first inning en route to the 14-8 nonconference victory.

KING HIGHLIGHTS HOW IT HAPPENED
  • King wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as a Wes Bonney single scored Davis Hall in the first inning.
  • Following a walk to load the bases, Graham hit a grand slam to give King a 5-0 lead.
  • The Tornado added two runs in the second inning on RBI singles from Robbie Scott and Andrews.
  • On the mound for the Tornado, Brendan Mascle only allowed one Tusculum base runner in the first two innings as King led 7-0.
  • King added three runs in the third, one on a Helms sacrifice bunt before two runs scored on a Pioneer defensive miscue.
  • The Tornado lead grew to 14-0 following four runs in the fourth inning.
  • Two runs scored on wild pitches before Helms drove in one with a double and later scored on a Roper double.
  • Tusculum got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning with five runs.
  • The frame was highlighted by a grand slam from Ryan Kavulick.
  • In the sixth inning, Kavulick scored on a Ryan Dos Santos single, cutting the King lead to 14-6.
  • Tusculum added a pair of runs in the ninth, but it wasn't enough as King took the contest 14-8.
