Tornado fall to UAH on opening day

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – In their second game of the opening day, the King University women's volleyball team fell to the University of Alabama in Huntsville. The Tornado looked to even the match in the second set, but fell in extra points and eventually dropped the match 3-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
  • A Gracia Love service ace followed by a block from Bailey Fersner and Chloe Clayton gave King an early 3-1 lead with three straight points.
  • The Chargers used a pair of 3-0 runs to open up an 11-7 lead before four straight King points.
  • Riley Nelson started the spurt with a kill as Clayton followed with a termination.
  • Lydia Buchanan served up an ace as King evened the tally at 11.
  • However, the Chargers scored three straight points and later went on a 5-0 run to put the set out of reach.
  • Alabama-Huntsville then went on to take the set 25-16.
Second Set
  • Jersey Wines served up a pair of aces and Julie Danner gave King an early 6-3 lead.
  • Another 3-0 run gave King a 9-4 advantage as the Tornado held that lead for the majority of the set.
  • However, a 7-1 Charger run evened the score at 16 before back-to-back points for the Tornado, including a kill from Danner.
  • The Chargers answered, however, scoring four straight points before King responded.
  • King responded with a 6-2 run as a Clayton solo block gave King two chances at set point with a block.
  • However, the Chargers scored four straight points to take the set 26-24.
Third Set
  • King took a 7-4 lead following back-to-back blocks, the first from Izzy Krick and Danner and the second coming from Nelson and Krick.
  • Alabama-Huntsville used a 5-1 run to open a 16-12 lead before back-to-back Tornado points.
  • King again pulled within 18-16, but the Chargers scored the final seven points to take the set 25-16 and the match 3-0.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Danner led King with five kills while Clayton, Nelson and Love added three kills apiece.
  • Gabri Puertas posted 12 digs and Kyle Love handed out eight assists.
FOR THE FOES
  • Kaila Sisk led the Chargers with 10 kills and three aces.
  • Paris Morris, Ally Kennis and Zoe Smith all accounted for seven kills.
  • Kennis added five digs while Shayla Libby posted 11 digs.
  • Colby Charland handed out 23 assists.
