MARS HILL, N.C. – The King University women's volleyball team dropped their second contest of the day, falling to host Mars Hill University in the afternoon contest. The first two sets were tight, but the Lions won all three sets to take the match 3-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
- Mars Hill scored three straight points to gain the lead in the early going, taking an 8-3 lead with a 6-1 spurt in all.
- The Tornado deficit grew to 14-6 following four straight Lion points.
- King tried to make a run late, but it wasn't enough as Mars Hill took the set 25-18.
Second Set
- Mars Hill quickly opened up a 6-1 lead in the second set before King tried to work their way back.
- Bailey Fersner came up with a kill and Izzy Krick capped a 3-0 run that pulled King within 9-7.
- However, the Lions responded with three straight points.
- King gradually chipped away at their deficit and back-to-back kills from Fersner and Krick evened the score at 17.
- Nevertheless, Mars Hill responded with four straight points to regain the lead.
- The Tornado pulled within 22-20, but the Lions scored three of the final four points to take the set 25-21.
Third Set
- King held an early 4-3 lead in the third set, but Mars Hill came back with three straight points, and a 7-1 run to take a 10-5 lead.
- Mars Hill put the set out of reach with a 5-0 run to take a 17-9 lead.
- The Tornado couldn't recover as the Lions took the set 25-12 and the match 3-0.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Fersner posted a double-double with 10 kills and 13 digs.
- Katie Harless registered a double-double as well, accounting for 11 assists and 12 digs.
- Jersey Wines led the back row with 20 digs.
FOR THE FOES
- Jana Cuck posted 12 kills for Mars Hill while Grace Lilly added 11 kills and nine digs.
- Nikkayla Stewart registered 19 kills.
- Jordan Schmucker handed out 45 assists and added 14 digs while Laela Jimenez recorded 29 digs.

- King takes on Young Harris College on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Mars Hill before facing Coker University at 2:30 p.m.
