PEMBROKE, N.C. – The King University women's volleyball team fell at UNC Pembroke on Saturday afternoon. The Tornado offense was stymied by a stout Brave defense as UNC Pembroke took the contest 3-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
- The Braves used a 5-1 run to take an early 6-2 lead before extending the advantage throughout the set.
- UNC Pembroke used a 4-1 spurt and later a 4-0 run to take a 21-10 lead as the Braves took the opening set 25-13.
Second Set
- King held the early lead behind a kill from Hailee Blankenship and a block from Blankenship and Izzy Krick.
- However, UNC Pembroke came back with three straight points and later used a 4-0 run to take an 8-4 lead.
- King pulled back within 14-12 behind kills from Blankenship and Abigale Jayne, but the Braves responded.
- UNC Pembroke scored five straight points to extend the lead and eventually win the set 25-16.
Third Set
- The Braves took a 10-5 lead, but the Tornado came back with a 5-0 run.
- Krick posted a block that was followed by a Zephanie Snyder kill and Gabri Puertas ace.
- A Blankenship kill then evened the score and forced a UNC Pembroke timeout.
- However, out of the timeout, the Braves scored four straight points, forcing a King timeout.
- The Braves continued to extend their lead and took the set 25-15 to win the match 3-0.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Blankenship led the offense with seven kills to go along with 11 digs.
- Katie Harless posted a double-double with 14 assists and a team-high 12 digs.
- Puertas added 10 digs while Krick posted four blocks, including two solo stuffs.
FOR THE FOES
- Vanja Przulj led UNC Pembroke with 20 kills and 12 digs while Ruby Countryman added 12 kills.
- Abby Peduzzi chipped in with seven kills and 15 digs.
- Katie Pressley handed out 40 assists and added eight digs while Kyleigh Coghlan led the way with 17 digs.
UP NEXT
- King returns home for their final to home matches of the regular season on Friday and Saturday. The Tornado take on Converse University on Friday at 7:00 p.m. before taking on Emmanuel University at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
- UNC Pembroke hosts Francis Marion University on Tuesday.
