BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University softball team came away with a split on Saturday against Columbus State University. The Tornado fell in game one behind a solid Cougar pitching performance 2-0 before bouncing back to take game two 6-1.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS
- The opening contest was a pitchers' duel with Nikole Counts and Hannah Rose Corbin.
- Following a 1-2-3 first inning, Counts stranded a pair of runners in the second inning while Corbin stranded a Lauren Lawson walk in the second.
- The Cougars struck in the third inning as Corbin laced a home run to left center field following a walk to give Columbus State a 2-0 lead.
- That was the only blemish on Counts' line as she posted nine strikeouts in the contest.
- Tinsley Thompson started a two-out rally in the sixth with a walk while Camryn Haag followed with a single and Lawson was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
- However, Corbin got the final out to end the threat and proceeded to retired the side in order in the seventh, giving the Cougars the 2-0 win.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS
- The Cougars looked to grab the early lead in the nightcap, but King cut down a run at the plate before a Madison Walter strikeout ended the inning.
- Campbell got the King offense going with a leadoff walk before moving to third on a Turner single.
- Campbell scored on a Rikkelle Miller sacrifice fly, giving King a 1-0 lead.
- Walter retired the side in order in the second before Day started a rally with a one-out double in the second inning.
- She later scored on a groundout before Campbell laced a triple that scored Baillie Murray and gave King a 3-0 lead.
- A double followed by consecutive flyouts plated a run for Columbus State in the fourth, but King answered in the bottom of the inning.
- Haag started the frame with a double before singles from Day and Campbell loaded the bases.
- Turner then ripped a bases clearing double to left center, extending the King lead to 6-1.
- Walter stranded a pair with a strikeout in the fifth before the Tornado turned a double play and Walter got a lineout to leave the bases loaded in the sixth.
- In the seventh, Walter worked around a two-out walk to get the final out and give King the 6-1 victory.

- Katelyn Cooper and Brooke Miller posted two hits apiece while Elyse Ambrose recorded two hits.
- Corbin drove in two runs with a home run.
