Tornado sweep Trojans on the road

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – Justin Sawyer and Jackson Carroll both had 12 digs Friday night as the King University men's volleyball team swept Mount Olive in a Conference Carolinas matchup.
 
THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: King 3, Mount Olive 0 (25-19, 25-23, 27-25)

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
  • The Trojans took an early lead, eventually stretching it to 9-5 before King scored a pair of points to pull to within 9-7.
  • King would eventually tie the set at 12 on a block from Aaron Milstead before taking their first lead of the night, 13-12.
  • After taking a 19-17 lead, the Tornado would score the next four points, taking a 22-18 lead and forcing a Mount Olive timeout.
  • King would score three of the final four points coming out of the timeout, taking the set 25-19.
Second Set
  • After Mount Olive scored the first point of the set, the Tornado would score the next five, taking an early 5-2 advantage.
  • The Trojans would close the gap, getting to within 9-8 before Carroll picked up a kill, bumping the lead back to two.
  • The lead was 13-12 when Kellan Kennedy recorded a kill, followed by him and Carroll teaming up on a block to give King a 15-12 lead.
  • After Mount Olive got to within 16-15, the Tornado would score the next four points, opening up a 20-15 lead and forcing a Trojans timeout.
  • The Tornado would go ahead 24-18 before the Trojans battled back, getting to within 24-23 before a service error handed King a 25-23 set win.
Third Set
  • The set was tied at eight when a Trojans service error started what would end up being a 3-0 run that saw the lead get to 11-8.
  • Mount Olive fought back, tying the set at 18 before taking a 20-18 advantage, forcing King to call timeout.
  • The Tornado would tie the set at 21 on a Carroll kill before AJ Drooker recorded a service ace, giving King a 22-21 lead.
  • After the timeout, Milstead had another kill, stretching the lead to 23-21.
  • The Trojans would continue their rally, eventually tying the set at 25.
  • King would score the final two points, including a Davis kill to take the set 27-25, and the match 3-0.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Davis and Carroll both finished with 12 kills. Kennedy had seven, with Drooker contributing six and a pair of service aces.
  • Jack Sarnowski handed out 36 assists, while Justin Sawyer had six digs to lead the Tornado back row.
FOR THE FOES
  • Tate Sandvig led the Trojans attack, with eight kills while also getting a block and six digs.
  • Jackson Lahey had 16 set assists for Mount Olive.
UP NEXT
  • The Tornado will face Barton Saturday afternoon, with first serve set for 2 p.m. in Wilson, N.C.
  • Mount Olive will host Lees-McRae Saturday afternoon.
