BRISTOL, Tenn. –  The King University women's basketball team dropped a Conference Carolinas contest, 85-56 to Francis Marion University Saturday afternoon. Alexa Gramann and Alayna Smith both scored eight points for the Tornado in the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Period
  • Francis Marion started the game on a 17-2 run, with Kiley Beach accounting for the points for King.
  • The Tornado would then make 3-of-4 free throws before Torey Walker hit a jumper to pull King to within 19-7 with 4:07 to play.
  • The Patriots closed the quarter on an 8-4 scoring run, taking a 27-11 lead.
Second Period
  • Both teams traded threes in the opening minute before Raven Addison knocked down a triple.
  • After drawing consecutive fouls, Smith hit three out of her four free throws, making the score 40-24 with 2:30 to play.
  • The Patriots hit a three with 36 seconds left before Ashley Allen made a driving layup, pulling King to within 43-26 entering halftime.
Third Period
  • The Patriots scored seven of the first nine points, with Brianna Dunbar hitting a pull-up jumper with 7:59 to play for the Tornado.
  • After Allen hit a turnaround jumper, Smith hit a jumper, with Addison picking up the assist, making the score 59-32.
  • Le'Aije Ellington hit a three with 1:08 left, which Gramann followed with a layup, putting the score at 70-39 heading to the final quarter.
Fourth Period
  • Allen hit a driving layup after the Tornado forced a turnover, which was followed by Smith hitting a hook shot off a quick pass from Jhayda McKinney.
  • Ellington and Jaelyn West both scored for King within 22 seconds of each other, with Ellington hitting a driving layup and West making a jumper with 2:15 to play.
  • King would finish the game on a 7-2 scoring run that lasted the final1:15, with Jaden Potts nailing a three, but the Patriots would win, 85-56.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Gramann and Smith both finished with eight points, with Gramann leading the team with four rebounds and two assists as well.
  • Beach and Addison also had four rebounds and two assists, while Torey Walker had two blocks for the Tornado.
FOR THE FOES
  • The Patriots had four players score in double figures, led by 24 points from Trinity Adams.
  • Lauren Taylor posted a double-double, scoring 19 points and grabbing 14 rebounds.
