BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University women's basketball team fell to the Barton College Bulldogs in a tight scoring game on Tuesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter
- It took a few minutes before either team scored. Barton hit the first bucket at 7:17 with a three-point shot before Ashley Allen got King's first points with a layup.
- The Bulldogs got out to a five-point lead before King had a nine-point run to close out the first quarter with a 13-9 lead.
Second Quarter
- King had their largest lead of the night at the 8:30 mark with a fastbreak layup from Alexa Gramann to make it 18-11.
- A 9-3 run from the Bulldogs tied the game at the 5:00 mark. It took almost three minutes before the next points as Raven Addison hit a jump shot in the paint.
- Mariya Williams hit back to back shots in the paint, with both assists coming from Jaelyn West as King took a one-point lead into the halftime locker room.
- Williams had eight points and had five rebounds in the first half, leading the stat categories in the game at that point.
Third Quarter
- Williams continued her scoring for the Tornado as she opened the second half with another shot from the paint.
- Both teams traded points before the media timeout had them tied at 32, however, Barton took the momentum out of the timeout, getting out to a five-point lead.
- Allen closed the third quarter with another layup to tie the game 42 with ten minutes to play.
- Both Alexa Gramann and Jaelyn West scored five points as King scored 16 in their highest scoring quarter.
Fourth Quarter
- Williams hit a free throw at the beginning of the period before Barton went on an 8-0 run to retake the lead.
- King came within a point with back to back layups from Williams and a third layup from Le'Aije Ellington. This left 18 seconds on the clock, but four free throws from Barton gave them the 60-55 win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Mariya Williams led the team with 17 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
- Alexa Gramann shot 4-6 from the field and 2-4 from the free throw line for 10 points. Jaelyn West hit two three-pointers on her way to also score 10 points.
- Ashley Allen had 8 points, 8 rebounds and 2 steals. Sarah Thompson had a team-high 3 assists.
- King out-rebounded Barton 37-31 and outscored 34-24 in the paint and 13-6 on second chance points.
FOR THE FOES
- Lauren Mingo had a game-high 18 points and led the team with 8 rebounds. She also had 4 assists and 4 steals. Celeste Bailey also tallied 4 assists.
- Leah Hampton scored 13 points with 9 coming from beyond the arc and Lauren Walker rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points.
- The Bulldogs scored 13 points on fastbreaks and 18 points off the bench.
