BRISTOL, TENN. – The bats came alive Saturday afternoon for the King University baseball team, as they scored 23 runs in a nonconference win over Davis & Elkins college. The 23 runs is the second-most runs scored in a game in the NCAA Division II era.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- King started the scoring in the third, when Starrs hit a sacrifice fly before Medford and Richardson picked up RBI hits to make it an early 3-0 lead.
- After Chad Evans hit an RBi single in the fourth, Starrs hit his home run, a three-run shot to left field to put King in front 7-0.
- Richardson hit his first of the day in the fifth, a solo shot that would be followed by Evans doubling home a pair of runs.
- Medford hit an RBI double in the sixth, after which Richardson went deep for the second time in as many innings, stretching the lead to 13-0.
- King then scored 10 runs in the eighth, with Richardson and Huffman picking up RBI doubles, while Ian Martin and Ryan Theobald had RBI singles. Turner Stout, Austin Goldie and Preston Felker all picked up RBI by way of bases loaded hit by pitches.
- The final run came when Petie Pavusek reached base on a fielding error, allowing Stout to score the 23rd run of the game.
- Hunley, who came on in the seventh to pitch, allowed a baserunner in the ninth before ending the game on a strikeout.
FOR THE FOES
- Aydin Zimmerman, Cort Kegley and Tanner Cook had the three hits on the day for the Senators.
- Larry Kusan drew three walks on the afternoon.
- Joe Ginn threw one shutout inning in relief, with one strikeout.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
- This was the second-most runs King has scored in a single game. The record in the NCAA Division II era is 28, set on April 16, 2015 against Southern Wesleyan University.
- As a team, the Tornado had 21 RBI, tying them for second in the NCAA Division II era.
