BRISTOL, Tenn. — Despite a hard-fought battle in their home opener, the King University men's basketball team fell to Emory & Henry 104-92 on Wednesday night at the Student Center Complex. But the night was far from short on highlights—senior guard
Jordan Akal etched his name into the Tornado record books by scoring his
1,000th career point.
Akal entered the game just 19 points shy of the milestone and delivered a stellar performance, dropping
29 points on 9-of-17 shooting, including 2-of-3 from beyond the arc and 9-of-10 from the free-throw line. His milestone bucket came in the second half, igniting the home crowd and capping off a memorable night for the veteran leader.
King (0-3) showed resilience after trailing by 19 at halftime, outscoring Emory & Henry 58-51 in the second half.
Lenier Pocknett led all scorers with
31 points, while
Jeremias Berchal added a double-digit effort with
12 points and 8 rebounds.
Emory & Henry (2-1) was paced by
Korbin Dixon, who poured in
32 points, and
Jaden Andrew, who added
20 points and 6 assists. The Wasps shot 53.7% from the field and capitalized on second-chance opportunities and fast breaks to maintain their lead throughout.
While the result wasn't what the Tornado hoped for, the night belonged to Akal, whose milestone is a testament to his consistency, work ethic, and impact on the program.
King will look to bounce back as they continue non-conference play before opening up their Conference Carolinas slate.
