King secures series win in first home series of the season

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University baseball team split a doubleheader with Davis & Elkins on Saturday. The win in the first game, gave King series win in their home opener.
 
THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: King 10 – Davis & Elkins 5 | Davis & Elkins 13 – King 9
LOCATION: King Baseball Field; Bristol, Tenn.
RECORDS: King 2-5 | Davis & Elkins 1-2
 
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME ONE
  • Davis & Elkins quickly got on the board in the top of the first inning. However, King responded in their half with three runs. Roper scored on a balk before Ruiz scored on a wild pitch. Starrs then crossed the plate when Amunategui singled to center field.
  • Starrs scored his second run on another Amunategui single in the bottom of the third. Borchardt crossed the plate later in the third.
  • Both Ruiz and Roper scored on a Borchardt single on the right side to make it 7-1 in the bottom of the fourth. Amunategui had and RBI as Borchardt and Starrs scored on a double to center field on the next play. Amunategui later scored on a wild pitch to record a five-run fourth inning to go up 10-1.
  • The Senators attempted to challenge the home team in the top of the seventh inning, scoring 4 runs on three hits, but King held firm with a 10-5 win.
 
KING HIGHLIGHTS – GAME ONE  
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME TWO
  • King struck first scoring two runs in the first inning. Roper scored on a Starrs single to center field. Ruiz then scored when Uribe singled to the left side of the infield.
  • The Senators took the lead scoring four runs in three at-bats in the top of the third.
  • Davis & Elkins extended their lead in the fourth inning to 10-2 on with 6 runs on 4 hits.
  • Hyatt scored as Roper hit a single through the left side in the bottom of the fourth.
  • Davis & Elkins scored their final runs of the game in the top of the fifth.
  • Roper drove in Hyatt before Ruiz drove in Corley in the bottom of the sixth. King then added three more in the seventh off three hits.
  • The Tornado scored their final run of the day off a Hyatt double down the right field line before Amunategui scored.
