King falls to Emmanuel in doubleheader

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – The King University baseball team dropped both ends of a Conference Carolinas doubleheader at Emmanuel Saturday, scoring a season-high 18 runs in the second game.

SERIES HIGHLIGHTS GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS
  • Emmanuel hit a pair of home runs early, including a two-run homer in the third to take a 3-0 lead.
  • In the fourth, King scored a run when Jose Ruiz singled to right field, allowing Medford to score.
  • The Lions added three more in their half of the fourth, extending the lead to 6-1.
  • After Emmanuel added one in the fifth Stout picked up a pair of RBI for the Tornado in the top of the sixth, lacing a single to left field, with Conner Hyatt and Josh Nuno scoring to make it a 7-3 Emmanuel lead.
  • Emmanuel then scored four runs in the bottom of the frame, taking a 11-3 advantage.
  • In the seventh, King scored three runs on five hits, including RBI singled by Nathan Borchardt and Nuno, with Joe Uribe picking up an RBI on a sacrifice fly, bringing the Tornado to within 11-6, though King was unable to add any more runs, falling 11-6 in the first game.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS
  • Borchardt started the second inning with a single to center field, scoring when Medford launched a home run, giving the Tornado an early 2-0 advantage.
  • A couple batters later, Jaylon Woodley hit a sacrifice fly, with Amunategui III scoring to make it 3-0.
  • Emmanuel scored four runs on four hits in the bottom of the frame, taking the lead.
  • In the third, Nuno led off with a double, which was followed by an RBI single by Michael Starrs to tie the game at four. The Lions responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning, making the lead 7-4.
  • The fourth inning was good for King, as they scored six runs on two hits, including RBI from Truman Roper, Stout, Starrs, Medford and Amunategui III that saw King take a 10-7 lead.
  • The Lions also had a big inning in the fourth, scoring six runs to take a 13-10 advantage.
  • King added a pair of runs in the fifth, including an RBI single by Borchardt and a fielder's choice by Medford that brought King to within 13-12.
  • King took the lead once again in the sixth, scoring six runs on three hits, with Ruiz, Amunategui III and Borchardt all picking up RBI, while Ruiz stole home, with Woodley scoring on a wild pitch during the inning.
  • Emmanuel scored three times in the bottom of the frame, pulling to within 18-16 before neither team got any offense going in the seventh.
  • The Lions took the lead for good in the eighth, when they scored three runs to make the score 19-18.
