GREENVILLE, Tenn. – The King University women's volleyball team opened the season with three games over two days at the Pioneer Classic hosted by Tusculum University. The Tornado opened with a 3-1 win over Auburn-Montgomery before falling to Lee and Edinboro.

HOW IT HAPPENED
King vs Auburn University Montgomery
- King opened the match with three straight points and the Tornado never trailed in the opening set.
- With a kill from Cameron Martin, King took a 10 point lead at 21-11.
- Martin and Isabel Krick each had two kills in the first set while Gracia Love had 5 receptions. King recorded two solo blocks from Love and Chloe Clayton.
- The second set had both teams going back and forth before AUM scored seven points in a row to take a 12-4 lead.
- The Tornado battled back but lost the second set 25-18. Clayton recorded two aces in the set.
- The third set opened with a two-point lead for King. Both teams battled with the score being tied 7 times.
- A late four-point run by the Tornado brought the score to a tie at 21. Riley Nelson completed the set win with a kill after an assist from Kylie Love. Nelson finished the set with 4 total kills and Kylie Love with 8 assists.
- In what would be the final set King quickly jumped out to a 5-1 lead. The score was tied at 7. Two kills by G. Love and an ace by Martin put the Tornado up 10-7 and King would lead the rest of the way.
- Martin and Clayton each had two aces in the final set with both Capri Johnson and G. Love each had 3 kills.
King vs Lee
- Lee opened the set with three straight points however, King quickly took the lead, in part with three straight service aces from Faith Morse.
- The Flames then had a five point run to retake the lead. Lee led the rest of the opening set.
- King opened the second set trailing 1-6. The Tornado worked to close the gap scoring four in a row with two kills from Martin and two aces from Clayton.
- Nelson and G. Love each had three kills and Love had a set-high 8 receptions.
- King struggled to get the offense going in the third set with a total of just 7 kills, three from Nelson.
King vs Edinboro
- King took a 6-3 lead early with a kill from Gracia Love and back to back aces from Chloe Clayton.
- A kill from Love tied the set at 14 but Edinboro then held the Tornado scoreless for the remainder of the set.
- King had four total team blocks in the first set.
- Following an Edinboro timeout, King expanded their lead in the set second to 7-2 on a block from Isabel Krick and Riley Nelson.
- King had their final lead of the set with a kill by Krick at 13-12.
- Nelson recorded 5 kills in the set that King lost by a score of 23-25.
- Krick recorded four kills in the final set.

The King University women's volleyball team will travel to UVA Wise next weekend for the Cavalier Classic. The Tornado will face Concord on Friday at noon before taking on Davis & Elkins and host UVA Wise at 2pm and 4pm on Saturday.
