King Opens Their First Meet with a Nailbiter Victory

The Tornado wins on the road at Belmont Abbey for the first match of 2026

Belmont, N.C. – The King University Acrobatics and Tumbling team traveled to Belmont Abbey for their first meet of the season, winning 228.690 to 226.725. King and Belmont Abbey battled their way through the day, going back and forth with the lead.
 
The Tornado started the day in the Compulsory event, where they had all four heats with a start value of 10. They scored a 7.40 in the Acro Heat, a 9.050 in the Pyramid Heat, an 8.90 in the Toss Heat, and finished with a 7.4 in the Tumbling Heat. They finished in the lead after the Compulsory with a total score of 32.75, while Belmont Abbey had a 31.80.
 
Going into the second event, which was Acro. King started with a total value of 29.70 for the three heats. They scored 8.750 in the first heat, which was a 5-Element. They then had a rougher heat of a 6-Element, which they scored a 5.50. They bounced back in the final heat, scoring an 8.850 in 7-Element. Belmont was able to take advantage of this and scored 24.20, with King scoring 23.10. King fell behind with a total score of 55.85, and Belmont Abbey with a score of 56.00.
 
The third event, Pyramid, saw King have a start value of 29.50 and Belmont Abbey with a 29.20. King took advantage of this third event and bounced back into the lead. With scores of 9.150 in heat one Inversion, 8.90 in heat two Synchronized, and 9.20 in heat three Open. They scored a total of 27.25 while Belmont Abbey scored 22.60, sending King to the lead 83.10 to Belmont Abbey's 78.60.
 
After the break, they moved on to the fourth event, Toss. King had a total start value of 27.30. They were able to score very high in the Open (heat three) and Synchronized (heat two) with scores of 8.850 and 8.20, respectively. They finished with a total score of 24.90 and stayed ahead with a total score of the day at 108, to Belmont Abbey 103.65.
 
The fifth event was Tumbling, which King started with a value of 54.55, and Belmont had a value of 52.90. King was able to finish the tumbling with a score of 44.750, with top scores coming from Duo Pass, Aerial Pass, and 6-Element Pass. King held a narrow lead going into the final event of the dual. King had 152.75while Belmont Abbey had 152.225.
 
King came in with a start value of 93.34, and Belmont Abbey had one of 95.20. King went first, putting up a score of 75.940, which put them at 228.69. Belmont Abbey would need a score of over 76 to clinch the victory. Belmont was only able to score a 74.50, which allowed King to win the first meet of the season.
