Bristol, Tenn. The King University Softball team took on Emory and Henry at home in a nail-biter of a two-game doubleheader. King won the first game in a comfortable 5-2 victory and won in a last-inning push 6-5 in the second game.

Game One:

In the first game, King was able to take an early lead in the bottom of the first inning, scoring one run off an error on the wasps. The tornado kept the pace up in the bottom of the second after Emory and Henry scored in the top. King took advantage of a wild pitch to send
Imari Golden home to make the score 2-1. Later in that inning,
Grace Shary made it home on a hit by
Giana Winge.

Emory and Henry, and King would battle it out the next few innings until King scored again in the fifth by a Savannah Luper lineout to the shortstop, but this allowed for Avaiah Bunsic to run home to score. In the sixth inning,
Ella Richey hit a ground ball to the first baseman, which allowed
Kaylie Hughes to make it home to end the game 5-2.

With that win, that would also mark Coach Payne's 100
th career win at King University!!

Luper held the mound down the whole seven innings, throwing 105 pitches while facing 28 batters. She only let up six hits and two runs score. She was able to get four strikeouts in the game.

King had a few bats that were hot in this game. Bunsic and Hughes were the top hitters, both going a perfect three for three with at-bats. Bunsic was able to score twice, while Hughes was able to score once with a double for one of her hits.

The two RBIs for King came from Winge and Luper.

The middle infield held their own against the Wasps' offensive attacks, totaling seven outs from both Bunsic and Shary alone.

Game Two:

Heading into game two, King had some confidence after the big win for the team. Both teams wouldn't score, however, until the third inning, when King would take the lead with a single to right field by Luper, which scored both Winge and
Katie Ryan. The Tornado would keep the scoring storm going into the fourth inning with a double to left field by Shary, sending Golden running home to score.

The scoring paused in the fifth inning, which then led to the sixth inning, where the Wasps scored two. Both of the runs came from back-to-back home runs. King would lead heading to the top of the seventh inning, but would give up three runs to Emory and Henry heading to the bottom of the seventh. King was down 5-3 in the seventh.

With no outs, the tornado walked into the bottom of the seventh with a statement to make.
Yuleesa Kennedy would hit a double to center field, allowing Winge to score and setting up Bunsic on third. Bunsic and Kennedy would both then score on wild pitches to win the game.

The duo on the mound of
Sophia Waters and
Makayla Ramsey allowed five runs to hold the win for King. Waters pitched five full innings, having three strikeouts on 85 pitches, facing 22 batters. Ramsey pitched two innings to finish the day for the tornado, throwing 32 pitches while facing ten batters.

On the offensive side, King was able to heat up the bats with five total doubles in this game, with two of them coming from Kennedy. Luper was able to have two hits and two RBIs in this game.

Winge on the defensive side was able to catch four outs by herself in right field.
