Tornado Women Defeat Emmanuel 6-1; Men Fall 6-1

The King University women’s team earned a 6-1 victory over Emmanuel University, while the Tornado men fell 6-1 to the Lions on Saturday

Bristol, Tenn. – The King University men's and women's tennis teams hosted Emmanuel University on Saturday, with the Tornado women earning a 6-1 victory, bouncing back from their last match against Lees-McRae. While the men dropped a 6-1 decision to the Lions. 

Women:

In doubles action, the Tornado split the two completed matches. At No. 1 doubles, the duo of Deniz Aytun and Rani Malhoe fell in a tightly contested 7-5 decision to Tanawa Senah and Anna Goncalves. King responded as Rani Malhoe and Ruth Robinson defeated Anhelina Zmushko and Emma Auger 6-2. The No. 3 match featuring Shellby Tranchita and Anna Blecher did not play.

King secured the victory with a strong performance in singles play, earning wins in three completed matches. Aytun led the way at No. 1 singles by winning the first and last sets over Tawana Senah but dropping the second. Malhoe followed with a straight set win at No. 2 singles, defeating Anna Goncalves. Trinity Moore added another point at No. 4 singles, earning a 2-1 victory over Emma Auger.

Anhelina Zmushko earned the lone singles points for Emmanuel with a straight-set win over Shellby Tranchita at No. 3 singles, while the No. 5 and No. 6 matches did not play.

Men: 

Emmanuel claimed the early advantage by taking the doubles point, winning two of the three matches. At No. 1 doubles, Lucas Machado and Danny Neleman dropped a 6-3 decision to James Girdler and Shumpei Kamiyama. The Lions also picked up a 6-3 victory at No. 3 doubles, where Aleksander Simovski and Daniel Llorens defeated Ben Jones and Bar Meshel. King earned its lone doubles win at No. 2 as Rohan Chalisgaonkar and Beckham Sylvester defeated Henrique Castro and Murilo Martins 6-3.

In singles play, the Tornado picked up one victory. Bar Meshel secured the point at No. 2 singles with a. straight set win over Murilo Martins. Danny Neleman battled in a three-set match at No. 1 singles before falling to James Girdler, while Lucas Machado also pushed his match to three sets at No. 3 before narrowly losing to Aleksander Simovski. Henrique Castro defeated Beckham Sylvester at No. 4 singles, Shumpei Kamiyama earned a straight set win over Rohan Chalisgaonkar at No. 5, and Matteo Hofestter completed the scoring with a straight set victory over Ben Jones at No. 6.
