Tornado defeat Barton with overtime goal from Sigurdardottir

WILSON, N.C. – The King University women's soccer team defeated Barton College in an overtime thriller at Barton Saturday afternoon. A goal from Kendyl Baird tied the game 1-1 leading to overtime play where Hulda Sigurdardottir  tallied the game-winning goal for the Tornado giving them their fourth win in Conference Carolinas play.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Bulldogs were the first of the board after Emily Futral scored in 20th minute to take the advantage.
  • Baird netted the equalizer for King in the 33rd minute; she was assisted by Miranda Smith and Sigurdardottir.
  • King outshot Barton 10-5 in the first half of play.
  • Both teams battled in the second half but were unable to find the back of the net resulting in a scoreless half sending the game into overtime.
  • The Bulldogs outshout the Tornado in the second half 8-4.
  • Olivia Drake refused the Bulldogs the advantage recording five of her six saves in the second half.
  • In the 7th minute of overtime play, Sigurdardottir dirbbled into the box and drilled a shot from the right side into the left corner of the goal to tally the game-winning goal for the Tornado.

FOR THE FOES

  • Futral leads the Bulldogs in goals scored with seven
  • Kelsey Rothwell made seven saves in goal for Barton.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Smith still ranks in the top of the conference in assists as she added another to the tally giving her six assists total.
  • Baird's goal marks her 4th of the season topping her last year's total of three.
  • Sigurdardottir now has six goals on the season, two of which were game-winning goals.

UP NEXT

  • King will be in action again on Wednesday when they host Limestone in their breast cancer awareness game at 1:00 p.m.
  • Barton travels to take on Belmont Abbey College Wednesday.
