Blues top King 7-2

BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – In a match that was added to the schedule late, the King University women's tennis team traveled to Bluefield State College for a dual match on Thursday. The Tornado took one of the doubles matches, but couldn't get any momentum going in singles as the Blues took the dual 7-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Haley Maloney and Marianne Hull got King on the board with a 9-7 win at No. 2 doubles over Laura Hernandez and Maria Hernandez.
  • The Blues took the other two doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead.
  • Hull took another win for the Tornado in singles play, topping Laura Hernandez 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.
  • Ashley Salazar nearly came up with a win for King at No. 4 singles, falling to Maria Hernandez 3-6, 6-2, 10-8.
  • Maloney played a solid singles match as well, falling to Marta Briales 6-4, 1-6, 12-10.
  • At No. 1 singles, Nia Gilliam dropped a 6-0, 3-6, 10-8 decision to Wendy Rudhu.

  • King plays their home opener on Friday when they host Milligan College at 2:30 p.m.
