King tops Southern Wesleyan

BRISTOL, Tenn. – Playing outside on campus for the first time this spring, the King University women's tennis team came away with a win over Southern Wesleyan University. The Tornado grabbed the lead with a pair of doubles wins en route to the 6-1 Conference Carolinas victory.

Katya Cerny and Nia Gilliam started the day for King (2-9, 2-5 CC) with an 8-3 win over Samantha Powell and Elizabeth Mulkey of Southern Wesleyan (1-6, 1-2 CC) at No. 1 doubles. At the second flight, Haley Maloney and Amanda Huffaker came away with an 8-4 win over Abbey Coker and Kaycee Blackwell, giving King a 2-0 advantage.

The Tornado didn't slow down in singles play as Huffaker took a 6-3, 6-1 win over Blackwell at No. 4 singles, and Maloney topped Coker 6-4, 6-4 at the third flight. Cerny capped the 6-1 win with a 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 win over Mulkey at No. 2 singles.

King will be in action again on Wednesday when they host Lincoln Memorial University at 1:00 p.m.
