King drops match to Appalachian State

BOONE, N.C. – The King University women's tennis team was back in action less than 24 hours after competing against Belmont Abbey College, this time against division one opponent Appalachian State University. King trailed 1-0 after double plays and did not come back falling to the Mountaineers 5-0.

To start things off for King, the doubles team of Katya Cerny and Nia Gilliam fell to McKayla Zupan and Megan Mullen 6-2. At number two doubles, the duo of Pearl Annan and Amanda Huffaker dropped their match 6-0 to Gabrielle Wreder and Marisa Anthony.

Singles play did not go well for the Tornado as Gilliam dropped her match at number one singles 6-2, 6-2. Cerny, at the number two spot, fell to Zupan 6-2, 6-1 before Huffaker fell 6-0, 6-0 to Mullen. Annan in the final match of the day dropped the contest 6-0, 6-0 to Olivia King.

The Tornado will be back in action on Thursday, April 9 when they travel to Converse College. Doubles play is set to begin at 3:00 pm in Spartanburg, S.C.
