Tornado finish spring break trip 3-0

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – On the final day of their spring break trip, the King University women's tennis team capped a 3-0 trip with a pair of victories over Clarion University and Saint Joseph's College. In the morning, King defeated Clarion 8-1 before topping Saint Joseph's 9-0 later Tuesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED – CLARION

  • King set the tone early, taking all three doubles matches, starting with Alyssa Salazar and Nia Gilliam defeating Michelle Petrilla and Allison Probst 8-0 at No. 3 doubles.
  • Mairanne Hull and Haley Maloney followed with an 8-1 victory over Sarah Robbins and Jessica Kennelly at the second flight.
  • At No. 1 doubles, Ashley Salazar and Katya Cerny topped Alivia Arnold and Maria Snyder 8-3.
  • In singles play, Hull defeated Snyder 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2, and Cerny defeated Robbins by the same score at the third flight.
  • Ashley Salazar took a 6-1, 6-0 win over Kennelly at No. 4 singles while Alyssa Salazar earned a 6-1, 6-2 win over Vinisha Reddy at No. 5 singles.
  • At the sixth flight, Maloney defeated Petrilla 6-1, 7-6 (7-0), making it an 8-1 win for King.

HOW IT HAPPENED – SAINT JOSEPH'S

  • King started the match with three wins in doubles play, taking the third flight be default.
  • Gilliam and Hull took a 6-2 win over Tate Hickey and Mary Huffine at No. 1 doubles and Cerny and Ashley Salazar topped Clare Kost and Vanessa Olson 6-0 at the second flight.
  • In singles play, Gilliam earned a 6-0, 6-1 win over Kost at No. 1 singles, and Hull followed with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Hickey at the second flight.
  • At No. 3 singles, Cerny earned a 6-0, 6-2 win over Olson, and Ashley Salazar earned a 6-1, 6-0 win over Huffine at the fourth flight.
  • The Tornado took a win by default at the sixth flight and Alyssa Salazar made it a 9-0 King victory with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Tori Franco at No. 5 singles.

UP NEXT

  • King returns home on Saturday when they host Limestone College. The Conference Carolinas dual is scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m.
