BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University women's swimming team opened their dual season with a split Friday night, beating Conference Carolinas foe Lees-McRae College 114-78 before falling to Emory & Henry College in a nonconference matchup.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The 200 yard medley relay team of Cassie Lowe, Abbie Erme, Reese Lauletta and Katie Koenst won the event, with a total time of 1:54.94, finishing two seconds ahead of Emory & Henry's team.
- The Tornado swept the top two finishes in the 100 yard freestyle, with Derin Yerlikaya winning with a time of 11:21.09. Finishing second was Fanny Legros, with a time of 11:38.73.
- Lowe picked up her first event win in the 200 yard freestyle, finishing in 1:58.99, winning over Lauletta, who placed second, touching the wall in 2:05.85.
- Lowe also won the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:00.38.
- Erme swam the 100 yard breaststroke in a season-best 1:10.73 to take the win.
- Yerlikaya swam to a win in the 500 yard freestyle, finishing in 5:32.73.
- Koenst had a second-place finish in the 200 yard IM, finishing in 2:19.52.
- Lauletta finished the 100 yard butterfly in 1:03.26, taking second.
UP NEXT
- The Tornado will be on the road Oct. 18 when they compete in a dual meet at Converse University, scheduled for a 4 p.m. start
- Emory & Henry will take on No. 25 Catawba College and Mars Hill Oct. 20.
- Lees-McRae will compete Oct. 21 at Carson-Newman University.
