BRISTOL, Tenn. – In the second set of NCAA Region Rankings, the King University softball team is ranked ninth. The Tornado have been in every region ranking the last two years.
The NCAA Region Rankings are used to select the NCAA Tournament field in each region. Eight teams will qualify for the NCAA Southeast Regional Championship. After the automatic bids are awarded in each conference, the NCAA Region Rankings are used to select the final five participants.
The Tornado are one of two Conference Carolinas schools under consideration along with Francis Marion University who is ranked sixth.
King is 31-20 on the season as they closed the regular season going 7-1 over the final eight games. Last week the Tornado went 5-1 and earned their second straight Conference Carolinas regular season title, finishing the league slate 16-6.
The Conference Carolinas Softball Championship opens on Thursday afternoon in Duncan, S.C. as the Tornado await the winner of eight seed Belmont Abbey College and ninth seed UNC Pembroke. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at Tyger River Park.
The next set of NCAA Region Rankings will come out on Wednesday, May 3 before the NCAA Tournament field will be announced on Monday, May 8 at 10:00 a.m. on NCAA.com.
