FLORENCE, S.C. – The King University men's soccer team opened Conference Carolinas play at Francis Marion University on Saturday afternoon. The Patriots grabbed the lead in the first half, and held off a late rally from the Tornado to take the contest 1-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Francis Marion was on the attack in the opening 30 minutes, taking eight shots and hitting two posts.
- Gauthier Lumale made three saves in that time before the Patriots broke through in the 32nd minute.
- Camilo Salazar drew the defense in the box and then found Edorta Cabieces who found the back of the net from 12 yards out to give the Patriots the 1-0 lead.
- Lumale made one more save in the first half the Tornado trailed 1-0 at halftime.
- King was held without a shot in the opening 45 minutes while Francis Marion took 11 shots, placing five on goal.
- The Patriots also took four corner kicks in the first half.
- The first shot for King came in the 54th minute by Renan Caruso, but it sailed left of the goal.
- King continued the pressure with shots in the 58th and 59th minutes from Conrado Mate Rothgerber and Anderson Moore, but both missed high.
- Kenneth Walton tried for the equalizer in the 88th minute, but his shot was turned away by the Francis Marion goalkeeper, giving the Patriots the 1-0 victory.
