Tornado beat Warriors to close regular season

CENTRAL, S.C. – The King University men's soccer team closed the regular season with a 2-0 road win over Southern Wesleyan Sunday evening, with Bay Moore and Ricky Sexton both scoring for the Tornado in the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both teams had a pair of shots that were blocked early, with the Warriors getting the first shot on goal of the day in the 27th minute, which Gauthier Lumale stopped to keep Southern Wesleyan off the board.
  • Lumale made another save in the 34th minute, after a Warriors shot was blocked. After a throw-in off the rebound, the Warriors directed another shot on goal, but again Lumale was able to stop it.
  • The Tornado were able to break the deadlock with just over 30 seconds left in the half, as Paul Ogynboye found Bay Moore in the box, with Moore putting the ball in the back of the net, putting King in front 1-0 heading into halftime.
  • Lumale was forced to make a save early in the second half, but he was able to keep the Warriors off the board.
  • The Tornado were able to continue putting pressure on the Southern Wesleyan defense, as in the 61st minute Joseph Elliott took a shot on goal, which the Warriors goalkeeper was able to stop.
  • Seven minutes later, Elliott took another shot on goal, which was again turned away.
  • King was able to get some insurance a short time later, as Ricky Sexton took advantage of a Southern Wesleyan turnover and got a breakaway, putting the ball in the back of the net to extend the lead to 2-0.
  • King didn't take their foot off the gas, as in the 78th minute they took a pair of shots, including one from Sexton that was blocked by a Southern Wesleyan defender.
  • The Warriors had three shots in the final five minutes, but the one was blocked, with the other two missing the net as the Tornado held on for the 2-0 win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • For Sexton, it was his fourth goal of the season, which ties him with Pedro Herrera for the team lead. For Moore, it was his first of the season.
  • Lumale finished with three saves in net, posting his fourth shutout of the season.
FOR THE FOES
  • Feren Nunez, Leonardo Flores and Alberto Esquivel had shots on goal for the Warriors.
  • Luke Bramblett made two saves in goal for Southern Wesleyan.
