Six Tornado win titles at Cumberland Open

LEBANON, Tenn. – The King University men's wrestling team had five individual champions, and a total of seven placewinners Saturday at the Cumberland Open.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Adan Estrada won the title at 133 pounds, winning all four of his matches via fall, with three of the falls coming in the first period. He started with a 2:22 win in the first round, before beating Bobby Estranda of Cumberland in 3:53 to advance to the semifinals.
  • After winning in 1:22, he advanced to the finals, where he pinned Breyden Whorton of Thomas More in 1:21 to take the title.
  • At 149 pounds, Brennan Watkins went 4-0 to take the title. He started the day with an 8-0 major decision win before beating Troy Harris of West Virginia Tech 17-2. After a win by pin in the semifinals, Watkins earned a 4-2 decision over Ty Lehman of Cumberlands in the championship.
  • Trent Mahoney went undefeated at 157 pounds, winning his first match via pin before winning a 4-2 decision in the quarterfinals. After taking his semifinal match via tech fall, 17-1, Mahoney won the championship with a 2:35 pin of Damion Jones of Huntingdon.
  • Joe Bertrand was 4-0 at 165 pounds, including a pair of decision wins and a 2:06 pin over Brayden Couch. He won the title with a 13-1 major decision victory over Billy Tate of Cumberland to claim the championship.
  • At 174 pounds, Clint Morrisette earned a first round bye before taking his next two matches via pin to advance to the semifinals. After winning 11-3 in the semifinals, he won a 17-5 major decision over David Burgess of Huntingdon to take the title.
