Multiple podium finishes as King opens the outdoor season

BOONE, NC. – The King University men's track and field teams competed at the Mountaineer First Chance Track & Field meet hosted by Appalachian State University on Friday to open their outdoor season.

HOW IT HAPPENED – MEN
  • The men's season started out just as strong as the women with Zach Stroin placing 2nd overall in javelin with an all-time best throw of 50.35m (165'2"). This was an all-time best by over 3 meters and also achieves the Conference Standard.
  • Nathan Rosson placed 3rd overall in the pole vault with a best vault of 3.90m (12'9.5"). This mark achieves the Conference Standard and breaks the school record.
  • Bennett Simerlein achieved a college best of 6.22m (20'5") in the long jump, which was good to place 7th overall.
  • In the men's 1500, the quartet of Sean Kilpatrick, Ben Carr, Spencer Utsey, and Lance Hatcher all finished between 8th-13th place with times of 4:19.68, 4:20.22, 4:21.93, and 4:23.66, respectively. Utsey also placed 2nd in the open section of the 800 with a time of 2:02.94.
  • Noah Gilliam and Jesse Owens both cracked into the top 15 for their first time ever competing in the hammer throw. They threw a best of 36.39m (119'5") and 36.22m (118'10"), good for 14th and 15th place overall.
  • Dominick Stevens placed 7th in the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.81 and also ran a time of 22.12 in the 200 meter dash, which is an all-time best. Stevens starts out his outdoor campaign achieving the Conference Standard in both of his events.
  • The duo of Matthew Henfield and Thomas Grant placed 3rd and 5th overall in the 400 meter dash with times of 50.96 and 51.44, respectively.
 
UP NEXT
The King University track and field teams compete this coming Friday, March 28th, in the King University Invitational on the King University campus, which is the first ever track & field meet hosted on campus.
