Tornado compete at first ever on-campus Track & Field Meet

BRISTOL, TN. – The King University men's and women's track and field teams hosted the first ever outdoor track & field meet in school history. The program was able to honor their Track & Field seniors during the event.

HOW IT HAPPENED – WOMEN
  • Sophomore, Ermay Vazquez Adame, finished 2nd in the 5k with a time of 19:05.72, which hits the conference standard and automatically qualifies her for the Conference Championship and puts her at 7th in the conference. Junior, Emily Ward, bounced back well and finished strong to nab 5th place with a time of 19:46.96, which also hits the conference standard. 
  • Vazquez Adame also won the 3k with a time of 11:14.02. 
  • Freshmen, Samaya Armstead, ran an all-time college best in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.81, which qualified her for the final round, which she opted out of to run other events. One of them being the 200 meter dash, where she ran a 27.14, good enough for 3rd place overall. 
  • Armstead also placed 3rd overall in the long jump, tying her season best with a best jump of 5.00m (16'5").
  • Freshmen, Elizabeth Butler, tied her college best with a best vault of 2.45m (8'0.5") in the pole vault, good enough for 7th place.
 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED – MEN
  • Three men's school records were broken today by the 4x100 relay, Lynden Johnson and Dominick Stevens in the 100 meter dash, and Nathan Rosson in pole vault.
  • The men's 4x100 relay of freshmen, Dominick Stevens, junior, Thomas Grant, freshmen, Braylon Hammond, and junior, Lynden Johnson won convincingly in a time of 41.73. This time breaks the NCAA-era school record, which was previously a 41.97 ran in 2015. 
  • Freshmen, Nathan Rosson, won the pole vault and also broke his own school record in the process that he set last week at App State by improving it to 4.25m (13'11.25"). This mark was also good enough to win the event outright. 
  • Lynden Johnson and Dominick Stevens both smashed the school record in the 100 meter dash with times of 10.50 and 10.65, respectively. Right now Johnson is ranked 10th in the nation for D2 and Stevens is ranked 31st. 
  • Stevens placed 3rd in the 200 meter dash with an all-time personal best time of 22.00. This also meets the conference standard.
  • Freshmen, Noah Gilliam, placed in the top 10 in the men's hammer throw with an all-time best throw of 37.67m (123'7") and freshmen teammates, Jesse Owens and Brayden Self, were not far behind with a best throw of 36.87m (120'11") and 35.63m (116'10"), respectively. 
  • Gilliam and Owens also threw all-time personal bests in the shot put with Gilliam cracking into the top 10 again with a best throw of 12.61m (41'4.5") and Owens with a best throw of 12.43m (40'9.5").
  • Junior, Mackey Bonds, placed 2nd in the high jump with a best jump of 1.90m (6'2.75").
  • Sophomore, Evan Deichert, ran an all-time best in the 5k with a time of 16:35.42 and senior, Ben Carr, eclipsed the 17 minute barrier with a time of 16:53.17. 
  • Senior, Mason Sanders, won the 3k steeplechase with a time of 10:18.47. 
  • Freshmen, Bennett Simerlein, won the long jump with an all-time best jump of 6.48m (21'3.25") and also placed 2nd overall in the triple jump with a best jump of 12.63m (41'5.25").
  • Sophomore, Sean Kilpatrick, ran a season best in the 1500 with a time of 4:13.26 and freshmen, Braydon Muhly, ran an all-time best with a time of 4:23.30. 
  • Junior, Zach Stroin, showed a lot of consistent from week to week by throwing within 5 inches of his personal best that he set last week with a best throw today of 50.23m (164'9"), which ultimately claimed victory in the event.
  • Freshmen, Nolen Carter, threw a huge personal best in the javelin exceeding the 40 meter mark for the first time with a best throw of 40.43m (132'7"), which claimed the 5th place spot. 
  • Thomas Grant also placed 2nd in the 400 with a time of 50.09, which was an all-time personal best by a large margin of 1.35 seconds. 
  • Freshmen, Spencer Utsey, won the 800 with a time of 1:59.36, which is an all-time college best. He was closely followed by sophomore teammate, Lance Hatcher, who finished 3rd with a time of 2:00.27. Freshmen, Cole Johnson also cracked into the top 5 with a time of 2:02.28. 
  • Senior, Skyler Miller, placed 2nd overall in the 400 hurdles with an all-time best time of 1:00.40. 
 
UP NEXT
The King University track and field teams compete this coming Friday, April 4th, in the Tornado Classic at Brevard College.
