King Rallies for Reverse Sweep to Defeat Chowan, Earn Second Straight Conference Win

The King University women’s volleyball team showed resilience, poise, and late-match toughness on Saturday morning, storming back from an 0–2 deficit to complete a reverse sweep over Chowan inside the Student Center Complex. The Tornado flipped the momentum beginning in the third set and surged through the final frames to secure a 3–2 victory, marking their second straight Conference Carolinas win.

Bristol, Tenn. – The King University women's volleyball team showed resilience, poise, and late-match toughness on Saturday morning, storming back from an 0–2 deficit to complete a reverse sweep over Chowan inside the Student Center Complex. The Tornado flipped the momentum beginning in the third set and surged through the final frames to secure a 3–2 victory, marking their second straight Conference Carolinas win.

King (7–3, 2–1 CC) posted 58 kills on .148 hitting and out-dug Chowan 87–78, while the Hawks (2–8, 1–2 CC) countered with 47 kills on .131 hitting and 14 aces. After dropping the first two sets 22–25 and 18–25, the Tornado responded with three straight frames of improved offensive rhythm and timely defensive stands to close out the match 25–19, 25–23, 15–13.

Match Summary

Chowan controlled the opening sets with steady offense and strong serving, hitting .206 in both frames to take a 2–0 lead. King struggled to find consistency early, committing 15 attack errors across the first two sets.

The momentum shifted sharply in the third. King's offense ignited behind Avery Schwieger, Princess Emma Oluwa, and Isabella Shutters, combining for 17 kills as the Tornado hit .205 to claim a 25–19 win and begin the comeback.

The fourth set became the most dramatic frame of the match, featuring nine tie scores and three lead changes. King's block tightened, and clutch swings from Haley Harnichar and Capri Johnson pushed the Tornado ahead late. King held off a final Chowan push to win 25–23 and force a decisive fifth.

In the final set, King stayed composed, earning key digs from Rylee Blevins and Cameron Martin while Schwieger and Oluwa delivered the finishing blows. The Tornado sealed the reverse sweep 15–13, completing a gritty turnaround to improve to 2–1 in league play.
