Hicks' hat trick leads King past Concord

BRISTOL, TENN. – After a loss in their opening match King University men's soccer team rebounded nicely with a 4-0 win over Concord University on Saturday afternoon. Chris Hicks netted three goals to lead the Tornado to their first victory of the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • King's first goal came in the 28th minute when Hicks was able to connect with a cross from Eli Carrasco.
  • Ryan Murphy sent a through ball that found Hicks who beat the keeper for his second goal coming in the 30th minute.
  • In the second half Murphy ripped a shot in the left corner off a free kick from about 25 yards out, pushing the Tornado's lead to 3-0.
  • To complete his hat trick Hicks was able to connect again with Murphy on a run through the center of the defense, and beamed it in the bottom right corner.
  • King out-shot Concord 15-5.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • This marks Hicks' second career hat trick, his first coming last season against Belmont Abbey.
  • Murphy tallied two assists, eclipsing last year's total of one.

FOR THE FOES

  • The Mountain Lions took five shots, placing one on frame.

UP NEXT

  • King travels to Charlotte, N.C. Wednesday to take on Queens University at 7:00 p.m.
  • Concord will travel Tuesday to take on Wheeling Jesuit University.
