HOW IT HAPPENED - Day 2
- The day started for the women in the Mile race, featuring Morgan Whitley and Ermay Vazquez-Adame. Whitley had a great battle up front with 4 other ladies, all from different conference opponents. At the 1k mark, Whitley threw in a surge to take the lead and 2 followed while the other 2 fell back. With a quarter mile to go in the race, it was a tight battle for the top 3 and Whitley ended up placing 3rd with a new PR of 5:16.66. Vazquez-Adame ran a more tactical race and ran very consistent for the first 7 laps before running the fastest final lap of any athlete in the field with a final lap of 35.93 and overall Mile time of 5:27.47. Going into the last lap, Vazquez-Adame was 8 seconds behind 5th place and she closed it to just 1 second.
- In the 800, Vazquez-Adame came back just a little over an hour after the Mile and ran an impressive time of 2:26.74, good enough for 5th place overall.
- In the 3k, for her third event of the day, Whitley ran a respectable 11:11.38.
- Going into the 4x400 relay to close the night, the King Tornado women were ranked 11th and not predicted to score as a team. However, the quartet of Abigail Brammer, Vazquez-Adame, Samaya Armstead, and Mandy Lowery ran legs of 1:06.13, 1:04.17, 1:07.30, and 1:08.73, which was good enough for an 8th place finish and 1 point toward the team total.
