Booe, Pocknett named Delta Blues SAAC Student-Athletes of the Month

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee has chosen Clare Booe of women's wrestling and Mikhail Pocknett of men's basketball as the Delta Blues King SAAC Student Athletes of the Month for February.
 
Booe, a freshman from Tarpon Springs, Florida, won the 117-pound regional championship. After a first round bye, she beat Stacy Pule of Allen in 33 seconds before pinning Charlize Shuler of Presbyterian in the semifinals. In the finals, she faced teammate #6 Melanie  Mendoza, who she beat 4-0 to take the championship. Booe helped King secure the South Atlantic Conference Championship with a 9-0 tech fall win over Newberry and went undefeated at the Bobcat Open at 117 pounds, with all of her wins coming via pin. She was named the Conference Women's Wrestler of the Week on February 4 and was named the South Atlantic Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Year.
 
Pocknett, a sophomore from Wilmington, North Carolina, helped the men's basketball team secure the #5 seed in the Conference Carolinas men's basketball championship bracket. In the month of February, he shot 54.4% from the floor and averaged 23.1 points per game and 9.1 rebounds per game. Pocknett led the Tornado with 30 offensive rebounds, 26 assists, and 15 steals. He had two double-double performances on Feb. 5 and Feb. 15. Pocknett was named Conference Carolinas Men's Basketball Offensive Player of the Week on February 10.
